Topic – ‘Assessment of Risks in Social Media and their application to Private Medical Practice in Australia’
Social media technologies are increasingly being used by medical professionals and medical practice to communicate with patients, respond to doctor reviews and educate them on health information. According to Sensis Social Media Report (2018) almost 8 in 10 people in Australia use Social Media and more than a third of people access social media 5 times per day. Source: https://www.sensis.com.au/about/our-reports/sensis-social-media-report While there are several benefits of using social networking sites (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Twitter) by medical practices there are also risks in using social media. Social media risk assessment is a thorough examination of social media risks medical practice faces and the measures that need to be in place to mitigate or prevent these risks. For example, risk of an medical practice employee accidentally releasing a patient information. This would lead to privacy issues, violation of state or federal law and damage reputation of the practice.
